Rezoning Re-thought: House is Home, Not Office

Late last month on North Clifton, at a house two driveways down from Douglas, the coat of light blue latex on the porch was fresh enough to warrant a “Wet Paint” sign. For good measure, yellow caution tape was strung between the columns. What was missing was the red and white placard that for weeks had been on the porch announcing that the house was the site of a development action—a rezoning request to convert it from a single family residence to a neighborhood office.

The owner, the development company Young & Van Sickle, withdrew the request late last month. That came as a relief to neighbors up and down the block who were opposed to the encroachment of offices, and more traffic, on an already commercial corner.
